2007 Introduction: Jon Reed

Jon Reed, a 6-5 junior small forward from Southern California, has a quick release and deep range. Mountain West, WCC and Pac-10 programs, among others, are expressing early interest...

Jon Reed, 6-5 JR SF Rolling Hills (Calif.) Palos Verdes Peninsula, is an excellent spot-up shooter with range well beyond the stripe. He'll need to improve his ability to create his own shot at the next level, but he's an intriguing prospect.

We spoke with Reed last night and asked him about the programs that are showing interest in him.

"UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, New Mexico, Utah, Miami and Illinois are the main ones right now," said Reed.

We asked if he favors any program in particular and Reed said, "I'd like to play in the Pac-10. I really like UCLA and USC. I also like Pepperdine a lot."

We asked Reed if he has a geographical preference when it comes to choosing a school.

"I'd prefer to stay home," said Reed.

Asked about the issue of early playing time, Reed said, "I'd like to play as a freshman if possible."

Reed said he's not close to making a decision yet.

"Probably not until after the summer," said Reed.

Reed told us he has a 3.1 GPA and he'll take the SAT in March.
