Duke Lands 2004 Guard

There aren't more than five or six known commitments from the Class of 2004, but you can now add Duke to the short list of schools that have players committed. This week, super guard DeMarcus Nelson told The Durham Herald-Sun that he's coming on board.

Nelson Picks Duke

Vallejo (CA) High guard DeMarcus Nelson told the Durham Herald-Sun that he's coming to Durham.

"The opportunity was there for me to attend one of the best academic and this best basketball school in the country," Nelson said. "I felt comfortable with the school and with the coaching staff."

Last year as a sophomore, he averaged 29 points a game. In landing him, the Blue Devils venture to California the first time since signing Chris Burgess who would later attend Utah.

Nelson started a super spring run with a terrific performance at the Kingwood Classic while playing for Belmont Shore/H Squad. He's a big-time player who shoots, handles and passes well. He was built to score.

At last weekend's Tournament of Champions, he gunned down the Michigan Hurricanes, one of the best teams in the tournament, all by himself.
