Morris To Stanford
Tim Morris, a combo guard out of Whitefield Academy in Atlanta, committed to Stanford last week. He competed on a bum wheel – injured ankle – at the recent Tournament of Champions. Regardless, he's one of the best combo guards we've seen this spring.
Morris was receiving heavy attention from Notre Dame, Florida, Georgia Tech and the Cardinal. His commitment to Stanford took many close to the situation by surprise. Georgia Tech coveted him so much that it is thought head coach Paul Hewitt personally used all of the program's evaluations on Morris himself. Notre Dame was supposed to have Morris on campus for another visit after Nike Camp.
"They (the family) were going out to California on a vacation and he was going to swing by Stanford," Georgia Stars coach Norm Parker said. From there, the Cardinal grew on him. Parker said that Morris had made it clear to him that he liked the west coast. "He said it just seemed like a good situation," Parker said.
While many refer to themselves as combo guards, Morris has the skills to back up the claim. A fine long distance shooter, he's improved his handle and is very savvy.
This is a very important pickup for the Cardinal. They are thin at the point and Morris should be able to come in right away and have an impact.
