Wright Pledges To The Big East

One of the top available shooters in the country has made his pick. Saginaw's Larry Wright pledged to one Big East program Wednesday night.

The St. John's Red Storm, in need of a stroker from the perimeter, found their man this week. Norm Roberts and his staff ventured in the state of Michigan and pulled a 22-point a game sorer from Saginaw High.

Larry Wright, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard out of Saginaw High, pledged to the Storm. He'll make an official campus visit not this weekend but the following weekend.

"He made the commitment yesterday evening to St. John's," Saginaw coach Lou Dawkins said. "It's a lot of pressure off the young man."

The Red Storm had been pursuing perimeter leads since the fall and upon zeroing in on Wright, made quick tracks to Michigan as it made inroads. "They've been up here 3 times – once in the fall and twice in the season," Dawkins said. "They fell in love with the kid. He's an explosive scorer with his jumping ability and especially his shot. He'll be a great addition to their program."

Wright attended the adidas Super Star Camp last summer outside of Atlanta and is a teammate of prominent junior Josh Southern. In addition to his big scoring number as a senior, Wright is accounting for 7 boards and 4 assists.

"They want him tom come in and play strictly shooting guard his freshman year and then after that maybe rotate in at the point and two guard," Dawkins said.
