Gonzaga, Florida Gets Early Visits
Stanwood (WA) High point guard Ryan Appleby is making his first official visit beginning Thursday. Gonzaga will host him for the next two days. Next weekend, he'll make a visit to Florida.
Appleby, like many of his classmates, is looking to make an early decision. "That's why I'm taking the visits to see and find out what schools are like," Appleby said. "I'll probably end up making my decision before the summer is out. The schools recruiting me are great schools so there's no reason to wait."
In addition to Florida and Gonzaga Appleby says that Oregon, Stanford and New Mexico have offered. NC State, most of the Pac-10, Kentucky, North Carolina and Missouri have made inquiries.
Regardless, it'll be the Gators and nearby Zags who get first crack at him. Washington to Florida? That's a long way.
"I think a lot of people wonder why because (Florida) is all the way across the country. As long as you are having fun playing basketball it doesn't matter where it's at."
Last weekend, Appleby was in Colorado Springs for the USA team trials. He wasn't among the final 16 players, but really enjoyed the experience and opportunity to measure himself against some of the country's best point guards. He reiterated what many that were at the trials said: Carmelo Anthony was the best player there.
