2007's Gilchrist Makes Commitment

Friendly High junior big man Gus Gilchrist has made a college decision. The 6-foot-8 power forward is headed slightly south for college.

The commitment wave continues in the current junior class.

This weekend, Gus Gilchrist, a 6-foot-8 power forward out of Fort Washington (Md.) Friendly, committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies. Seth Greenberg's program was the first school to put forth a scholarship offer to the D.C. Assault big man. Gilchrist said that Miami, Virginia, Boston College and Pittsburgh showed interest as well.

"I came to the decision on Friday after my game," Gilchrist told Scout.com. "They've been showing me the most love and I've been up there twice and loved the facilities and the academics."

Gilchrist attended the Hokies conference game against Boston College two weeks ago. He's averaging 16 points a game this season.

"I think I'm getting better and more versatile. I'm driving better and making my jump shots. I'm doing better at rebounding this year."
