Matthews Speaks On His Recruitment

Detroit (MI) Denby forward James Matthews is one of those workhorse-type guys. The 6-6 forward from the Michigan Hurricanes is attracting high-major attention and taking care of a nagging shoulder injury.

Matthews has MRI, Big-Time School List

James Matthews plays with intensity and energy. The 6-6 forward gets on the glass, remains active and gives his team a burst.

However, recently he's been slowed down a little with an injury. "We were practicing and Olu (Famutimi) went up to dunk and I blocked it and he pushed my arm down," Matthews said of the origin of the injury. The contact took place a month ago and he was bothered by the pain at the Tournament of Champions.

Matthews had an MRI on his right shoulder late Thursday afternoon.

Aside from the injury, things from a recruiting perspective seem to be going well for Matthews. His current list reads Marquette, Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois, Texas A&M and Southern Cal. Southern Cal? Yes, as we understand Matthews is from California and remember Desmond Farmer? The former Michigan Hurricane is a junior at USC.

Last year, Matthews said he averaged 19 points and 16 rebounds. "I'll be looking for a school in a town where everybody around the school supports the school." Sounds like he wants a college town.

Matthews isn't in any rush to make a decision. "I'm making my decision right after I take my trips in September."
