Jason Gilzene, 6-6 JR SF Los Angeles (Calif.) Fairfax, didn't get a chance to shine on a deep Fairfax team this season. We expect that to change next year. Gilzene has a great body, developing perimeter skills and he competes extremely well.
We spoke with Gilzene recently and he told us that Portland, Oregon, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara have been expressing interest in him. When asked if any school stood out for him yet, Gilzene said, "Oregon -- they're my favorite right now."
Gilzene said geography won't play a big role in his decision. "Staying close isn't real important," Gilzene said. "I would like to be somewhere warm though."
Gilzene also mentioned that playing time won't weigh heavily when he makes his college choice. "Playing time is not an issue,"Gilzene said. "I want to play on a team that works well together -- playing early isn't important."
Don't look for a decision anytime soon from Gilzene. "I want to take my time and choose the best possible school," Gilzene said.
He'll play with the Rockfish this summer, as well as with Fairfax in their annual July high school tournament. He'll also be attending the Pump camp.
Gilzene said his GPA is around 2.7 and he's waiting on results from his June SAT test.
