O'Brien will run with the New Jersey All-Stars. "I've been putting in 3 hours a day shooting since my season's been done," O' Brien said. "I've been getting into shooting my mid-range game and that's my strength."
The big man knows what kind of things can come of a spring blowup. "I'm hoping that after a couple of the AAU tournaments I'll start getting more options and everything."
O'Brien already has some excellent options. LaSalle and American like him. Penn State out of the Big Ten has been there a while. O'Brien said he converses with those 3 the most. St. John's and North Carolina State hold regular conversations with him as well.
"Penn State has been on me since 10th grade and we go to team camp there. I see (Ed DeChellis) a lot. Coach Earl came to 4 of my games this year. St. Joe's is an hour away and I came down and watched a practice down there and Coach Martelli came up to watch us play and I talk to him once or twice a month. LaSalle, Coach Giannini, he saw me working out with Sam Rines and he offered me a scholarship."
O'Brien, a strong student, has reasonable expectations for his first year on campus and a list of things that are important to him. "It's a real wide variety of schools (that are recruiting me). I want good academics and a program that has a good shot at getting in the NCAA tournament year in and year out. I'd like to come in as a freshman and get some time even if it's like 7-8 minutes, I want to get some time."
