Cameron Seeks New Surroundings

Joey Cameron is looking for a new home. The Auburn freshman has been granted his release and is looking around for a new collegiate residence.

Joey Cameron, a 6-foot-8 freshman from Auburn University, has been granted his release and will pursue other collegiate options. As a freshman, Cameron played 11 minutes a game for the Tigers, averaging 2.3 points and 2.7 boards.

"Joey Cameron has asked for a release from Auburn and he's received his release this past week," Mike Turner, Cameron's high school coach said. "We're trying to see who may be interested."

The release stipulates that Cameron cannot talk with other SEC programs but has no restrictions on programs outside the league.

"He's going to be looking for a program that operates from the post with a traditional inside-out offensive set," Turner said. "Maybe a program that can help him recapture his love for the game. He just wants a chance to showcase his abilities."

Turner said that Cameron has a few places he'd be interested in. "Honestly, Joey is very interested in Memphis and was prior to his signing with Auburn. He's very interested in Maryland, an ACC school. He obviously thinks he can play and compete in the ACC. Those are two that have come up.

"Xavier, LaSalle in the Atlantic-10 as well. With the emergence of George Mason and Winthrop, the mid-major schools are producing talent too. We've told him to be open to some mid-majors too."
