Now the 6-foot-9, 225-pound junior forward is headed to UConn.
``My coach didn't think I was good enough," Edwards said.
Edwards averaged 17.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game this season and attracted recent interest from the likes of Wyoming, Virginia Tech and St. Mary's. However, it was a no-brainer when the Huskies offered.
``It was done," Edwards said. "You can't help but be anything but excited. I'm really glad, but I kind of expected something like this to happen."
Edwards is a long, shot-blocker who runs the floor. He moves well and is already qualified and will give Jim Calhoun & Co. a big body up front since the Huskies will lose Hilton Armstrong and Ed Nelson, will likely lose Rudy Gay and could also watch as Josh Boone goes to the NBA.
One college coach compared him to former Arizona standout Channing Frye, who was under-recruited coming out of high school in Phoenix.
