Top 50 Holmes Stays Home

Michael Holmes,'s No. 40 prospect in the Class of 2007, reached his collegiate decision this week. The 6-foot-7 power forward out of Bishopville (S.C.) Lee County, will play in the SEC.

After practicing with his AAU team on South Carolina's campus and seeing the Gamecocks capture their second NIT championship, Michael Holmes had seen enough. It was time to end his process and join the Gamecocks.

Holmes looked at South Carolina, Florida and Wake Forest before making his decision. The announcement for the Gamecocks is big. He's a stud player from the state and a building block for the future.

"It was real big," S.C. Ravens coach Dion Bethea said. "Mike's a family guy and he wanted his family and his coaches to see him play. South Carolina was a perfect fit for him. It's a great move and I think it will get everybody back on track so they know its ok to go to South Carolina."

Bethea raves about Holmes' talent – at both ends of the floor.

"Michael brings a lot of intensity, especially on the defensive end. Coach Odom will let the kids really get up and down the floor. He loves the way they play with that open floor game. I think Mike is going to give them a presence inside defensively and offensively."
