Something's Cooking In Derwin's Kitchen

Derwin Kitchen has reached a decision. One of the top unaccounted for players is headed to the Big East.

Derwin Kitchen,'s No. 73 prospect in the Class of 2005, is off the board. Kitchen picked up the phone and dialed up the St. John's basketball office to offer his pledge. He had considered Miami, Jacksonville, James Madison and Virginia Tech before making his final decision.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard visited Miami a few weeks ago and then made his call. "I'm going to New York, I'm going to St. John's," Kitchen told

As a high schooler, Kitchen won state championships at Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines. He committed and signed with Florida but was not admitted into school. He'll have four seasons of eligibility remaining in Jamaica.

"I think I can have an immediate impact if I come in ready to play," Kitchen said. "It's one of the top conferences in the country."

The guard is eager to get back to the court after playing sparingly this season. "It's been a long year. I'm really ready to get after it and run with the fellas."
