Crawford Settles On ACC Team

Casey Crawford's had a unique month. This week he cemented his collegiate plans and began packing up his bags for the East Coast.

Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley North senior Casey Crawford is headed to Wake Forest. After considering a host of programs ranging from Nebraska to Wichita State and Virginia, the 6-foot-8 power forward ( pre-season No. 96) committed to the Demon Deacons.

The Deacons must have been sweating out his pledge considering what happened during his official visit. Crawford's tonsils flared up while in Winston-Salem and an overnight stay in the hospital was needed. Now, typically that would spell disaster when signing day rolls around but Crawford said that in a unique way it showed him what he needed to see.

"It was kind of a blessing in disguise because it showed how much I mean to them," Crawford said. "There were doctors and Coach Prosser helped me out and he was there talking to me. He was telling me how much he wanted me on the team and stuff."

Crawford is getting his tonsils out next week but is in good health and looking forward to playing for Skip Prosser.

"The style offense they play, kind of 4 out and 1 in. I don't want to be a 5 man and they need a 4 man who can stretch the defense. Coach told me that they need a guy like that and I can go out there and hit some shots for them. It's the ACC and it's a big step from where I'm playing right now but I'll work at it and see what happens."
