Flowers Headed To Big East

John Flowers took some unofficial visits and now he's part of a Big East program. The 6-foot-7 combo forward out of Maryland made his decision on Friday.

Two weeks ago at the Boo Williams Invitational, John Flowers told that West Virginia led for his services. On Friday, the Mountaineers moved from a leadership position to actually holding a commitment from Flowers.

"He did and we're very excited about it," Nate Flowers, John's dad told "It came down to Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Those were the main two. After we visited Virginia Tech (yesterday) that's when he made his decision."

Flowers turned in an outstanding season at St. Mary's Ryken. A combo forward, he flashed an improved jump shot at the Boo Williams and is a contender for Top 100 status nationally in his class.

The Mountaineers wasted zero time in locking up Flowers. They loved the guy and proceeded full speed ahead from the start.

"Coach Beilein really wanted him and that meant a lot to us. He put in the time to get him and the coach really, really wanted him. It ends that process. I don't think no one else went after him like Coach Beilein did from the beginning."
