Final 2006 West Rankings: Centers

Spencer Hawes, Brook and Robin Lopez, Deon Thompson and Alex Stepehson are among the top centers in the west for 2006...

The 2006 West Coast centers are a very deep and talented group. This is easily the best group of centers the west has had in the last several years. Hawes is the most skilled and polished big man in the west, with the ability to play in the low-post or facing up on the perimeter. He's got a great feel for the game and he's the best rebounder among the centers. Lopez is not too far behind Hawes. While he doesn't have the offensive skills that Hawes possesses, Lopez has a better body and he's a superior athlete. He can shoot to the three-point line and he's a good shot-blocker. Thompson has come the farthest of any player on this list in the last couple years. He's lost weight and he's become an outstanding low-post scorer. Thompson is probably the best passing post player in the west for 2006. Robin Lopez is not far behind his brother as a prospect. He's an excellent rebounder and shot-blocker. He's not quite as polished as his brother, but he's got a chance to be an elite player. Stepheson has a very good body and he's a solid defender and rebounder. He's still developing his low-post offensive game, but he's got good timing as a shot blocker. He doesn't have a great, natural feel in the post, but his physical attributes make him a very interesting prospect.
