Austin Daye Makes Commitment

Austin Daye was outstanding during the April evaluation period and a number of programs began to express interest in the talented junior. But Daye took an unofficial visit last weekend and he decided he liked what he saw...

Austin Daye, 6-9 JR PF/SF Irvine (Calif.) Woodbridge, has given a verbal commitment to Gonzaga, according to a source close to the recruitment. Daye took an unoffical visit to Gonzaga last weekend.

Daye is a very talented scorer, with the ability to put up points from a variety of spots on the court. He's got deep range on his shot, but he's also got a very nice touch inside the paint. He'll need to add weight and strength to play in college, but his upside is extremely high. In terms of just the ability to put the ball in the basket, there aren't many kids in the west who are more adept at that one thing.

Daye was also hearing from Oregon, Arizona State and Washington, among other programs. A number of college coaches were impressed with him during April, though, and he figured to hear from some of the top programs in the country if he were still available in July.

The 2007 class is shaping up as a very nice one for Gonzaga, with Robert Sacre and Steven Gray having already committed to the Zags.
