Guess who showed up late Monday night? If you said LeBron James, good call. The Akron superstar had a mini entourage with him. He also had a pager and two cell phones. How connected does one man have to be?
Lee Humphrey is oh so close to pulling the trigger. Our guess is that he makes an announcement as early as next week. Taking it a step further, we are pretty sure Florida will be the choice. UF is the lone campus he's seen. Marquette, Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia Tech are still under considering but they'll have to work fast. By the way, Humphrey thinks Ryan Appleby just might be a Gator too.
Shannon Brown can draw a crowd. We noticed that Tom Izzo and assistant Brian Gregory were up with him early for 3-on-3 and chased him around pretty good throughout the day.
Mark Gottfried was front and center for Akini Adkins this morning.
Yesterday, Keith Wooden made a point to list Arizona State. The first thing Rob Evans did today was watch Wooden in the morning.
Marcus Williams (ankle) and Jason Rich (back spasms) are a few of the banged up kids in attendance. Williams was unable to play today. UK signee Bobby Perry apparently hasn't played in the five on five yet either.
Matt Malone likes Kent State, Holy Cross, South Florida, DePaul, Buffalo and Tulane.
Rick Barnes was one of a number of head coaches, including Mike Krzyzewski, who showed up for Daniel Gibson's first game.
Our friends at ABCD Camp report that Providence picked up a commitment from combo guard Gerald Brown out of the Baltimore Select AAU program.
Forward Chris Low lists Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas State, SMU and Oklahoma.
Brett McDade out of Texas likes Tulsa, Houston, UNC-Wilmington. SMU, New Mexico and Louisiana Tech. Tulsa and Houston have the jump on everyone.
Worcester coach Mo Cassara reports that Dwight Brewington is headed to his campus this fall.
Demetric Bennett has been playing well and Georgia head coach Jim Harrick is hot on his trail.
Props to playmaker Dane Bradshaw for getting guys the basketball and being unselfish.
Tommy Amaker and Tom Izzo were both in attendance today watching Drew Naymick.
Gary Williams did a little Reyshawn Terry watching today.
Regulations Check: We spoke to a pair of AAU coaches today and asked them how the college guys are holding up under the new rule stating that college coaches can't speak to AAU coaches who have players participating in the sanctioned events. So far, we are happy to report that the AAU coaches of these two Top 25 players have not been illegally contacted by colleges yet.
