Sutton Tranfers To FAU

Jimmie Sutton has the best of both worlds. He's going to collect a championship ring from the Florida Gators and after sitting out a year, could be an impact guy in the Sun Belt.

Jimmie Sutton, a 6-foot-10, 250 pound giant who was a reserve for the Florida Gators last season, will transfer to Florida Atlantic to play for Rex Walters in the Sun Belt.

As a high school center coming out of North Broward Prep in 2005, Sutton averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds. He ran into some injury problems prior to his freshman season with the Gators but was a member of their national championship team.

Walters is ecstatic to land a player of Sutton's caliber because you simply can't sign a young man with that kind of size out of high school and Walters feels like Sutton has a chance to become a legitimate impact player for his program and in his league.

"It's a big day for us," Walters told Scout.com. "This is even a happier day than probably the press conference (announcing my hiring). Jimmie is a player that can come in and have an impact for us the day he puts on an FAU uniform."

Walters, who took over for Matt Doherty this spring, sees very big contributions from the big fella after he sits out a transfer season.

"We're very excited and there's a lot of smiles in the office right now."
