Manning Looks To Stay West

Jacob Manning, a 6-6 power forward from Tacoma who can defend and rebound, is receiving interest from several West Coast schools...

We spoke with Jacob Manning, 6-6 SR PF Tacoma (Wash.) Bellarmine Prep, last night at the West Coast All Star Camp. Manning has had an impressive camp, showing a willingness to defend and rebound in traffic. With a nice frame, and long arms, Manning projects to the  mid major level.

Manning told us that Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Cal Poly, Texas Tech, UC Santa Barbara and Texas Tech have all expressed varying degrees of interest. He said no school has emerged as a leader at this point in time.

When asked what he would look for when choosing a school, Manning said, "academics is the primary thing. Early playing time would be nice, but it's not that important. And I'd prefer to stay on the West Coast, if everything else is equal."

Manning went to a Pepperdine camp prior to his sophomore year and he's been to games at Washington. Other than that, Manning hasn't seen any college campuses. He said he hopes to set up some official visits after the July evaluation period.

Manning doesn't see himself making a decision anytime soon. "I'll probably sign in the early signing period, but I won't decide until sometime after the summer," Manning said.

Manning said he scored 820 on his first attempt at the SAT and he plans to take the test again. He said his core GPA is 2.3.
