It had been rumored that he had verballed to Arizona State – a couple of times – but Smith had denied it in the past.
This time, when asked at the Adidas ABCD Camp in New Jersey on Wednesday if he had committed to Arizona State, he said, "Yes."
When? "Just now," he said. "In fact, I decided right before that last game I just played."
ASU has always been his run-away leader, since it's the current residence of Smith's close friend, former teammate Jason Braxton. But he said, through all of the rumors and reports of his commitment, ASU was very classy about it. "They didn't pressure me at all," Smith said. "They allowed me to take all the time I needed to make the best decision for me."
Why, besides, Braxton, did he decide on ASU? "I like Coach Evans. I feel comfortable going there. He's real to me, which is what I think I need to get to the next level."
