The 6-foot-5 Greensboro Day standout small forward is a high-major athlete and now he's in the process of trying to elevate his entire game to that level and become a part of an ACC caliber team.
"Over the past year I've been playing at Greensboro Day and I've been working on my ball handling and my shooting and my first step," Thomas said. "I've had a big improvement so far with my steps and my shot and I'm more comfortable on the wing position."
Thomas will be recruited at the small forward position; he'll be able to get out and run, make a few perimeter shots and use his leaping ability to rebound inside.
"My plan right now is to keep working in the gym, working on my ball handling and my shooting and hopefully having an impact on the ACC," Thomas said.
He had a nice weekend at the recent Tournament of Champions with the N.C. Gaters. He's drawn offers from Miami and George Washington with others like Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Clemson, Florida State, Xavier and Old Dominion showing a lot of interest.
With Thomas, most of the schools are in the process of evaluating him for who he is, what he can be and is his game suited to their style. "Most of the schools that haven't seen me a lot want to watch me and see if I'm comfortable on the wing," Thomas said. "It's basically getting the coaches to look at me and if they like what they see getting an offer from them."
In the meantime, Thomas is going on some visits and will be attending camps. "I got a busy summer. I'm heading up to Virginia Tech to get some camp evaluation with them and hopefully that'll go over well. Then I'm going to fly to Miami to visit them and I'm supposed to go to George Washington to visit them."
The 3-star small forward hasn't had much of an opportunity to see campuses so getting out in June will be a valuable time for him. Toss in the strong GPA and by all accounts he's a character kid and you can see the interest level growing in his game as he searches for the right fit to spend the next 4 years at.
