Multiple Schools On McKines

Wendell McKines, a 6-4 junior power forward from Northern California, has numerous programs showing interest in him. The Mountain West, WCC, Pac-10, WAC and ACC conferences are all represented on his list of potential suitors...

Wendell McKines, 6-4 JR PF Richmond (Calif.) High, is undersized but he plays with great toughness and heart. He's explosive off the floor and he's a good rebounder. His shot is still a work in progress, but he can make shots in the 16-18 foot range if given time and space.

We spoke with McKines recently and asked about the schools that have expressed interest in him so far.

"UNLV, Nevada, Miami, Washington State, Washington, San Francisco, San Jose State, San Diego State and St. Mary's," said McKines.

We asked if he's particualy high on any programs at the moment.

"No, I'm wide open right now," said McKines.

McKines said he has offers from Nevada, San Jose State, St. Mary's and San Francisco.

We asked him which school has been recruiting him the hardest so far and McKines replied, "Washington State."

McKines talked a little about what he is looking for in a school.

"Someplace with a family atmosphere, an up and down tempo and someplace where I can become a better player," said McKines. "Location doesn't really matter much. I might feel more comfortable closer to home, but if I find that family atmosphere elsewhere, that would be fine."

McKines said he doesn't see himself making a decision prior to July.

"I'll decide after July, sometime before my senior season, so I can focus on school," said McKines.
