Zags Snag 2009 Forward

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are hard at work this summer. How do we know? Well, this week Mark Few's crew accepted a commitment from a member of the Class of 2009 and he went to a unique part of the country to land a basketball player.

Normally, Gonzaga head coach Mark Few enters Montana for fishing trips. His pursuit of Brock Osweiler probably yielded his largest catch in state to date. Osweiler, a 6-foot-8 power forward, committed to the Zags this week.

On Tuesday, the potential combo forward stopped by campus for an unofficial visit and made his commitment official. "It's close so my family can come and watch me play," Osweiler told Scout.com. "It's been sold out the last 5 years and the staff guaranteed me that they're going to stay together."

Osweiler runs with the Yakima Elite AAU team, one of the better programs in the northwest part of the country. He's been to Gonzaga's campus multiple times and the fit is there. Osweiler is participating in the Nike Hoop Jamboree in St. Louis this week.

Prior to the commitment to Gonzaga, Michigan State and Illinois had shown interest but it's important to note that Gonzaga did the advance homework on this one and beat guys to the punch with the offer and the relationship building aspect.
