Cunningham Gets Noticed

Larry Cunningham, a 6-3 shooting guard from Downey (Calif.), was something of a sleeper coming into this summer. But coaches are now taking notice of his athleticism and upside...

Larry Cunningham, 6-3 SR SG Downey (Calif.) High, is an explosive athlete who needs only a consistent jump shot to become a high priority recruit at the mid major level. He's got a great basketball body, an excellent first step and shows signs of becoming a very good defender.

We spoke with Cunningham recently and learned that he hasn't had much recruiting attention to date. He told us that American, Rider and Colorado St. have all expressed interest. In addition to those schools, we've heard that Pacific and Long Beach St. are also very interested.

When asked about what he was looking for in a school, Cunningham said, "academics, a program on the rise and the chance to play right away." He also told us that he's willing to go anywhere and isn't necessarily looking to stay on the West Coast. He hopes to make a decision in the fall.

Cunningham will be playing with Bellflower Hoops today and tomorrow at the FullCourt Press Summer Shootout. He hopes to play in the Big Time, but it's unclear at this time if he'll be in Las Vegas next week. Some family matters may prevent him from attending the tournament.

Cunningham told us that he has a 2.4 GPA in core and scored 950 on the SAT.
