Slaughter Creating A Buzz

Marcus Slaughter, a 6-8 senior power forward from Riverside (Calif.), is creating quite a stir with his play this month. We spoke with him recently about his recruitment...

No one in the west has seen their stock improve more in the last week than Marcus Slaughter, 6-8 SR PF Riverside (Calif.) North. At the FullCourt Press camp and Summer Shootout, Slaughter has been sensational. He's long and slender, with good ball skills (shoots it ok out to the three-point line), very agile for his size, and he's a terrific rebounder/defender.

Slaughter's games have become more and more crowded with college coaches in the last couple days. Mostly mid majors, but some high majors are taking note of him as well. With his upside, it's not difficult to see him going to a high major.

We spoke with Slaughter the other day and he told us that he hasn't received much serious recruiting attention so far. Pepperdine, USC, Portland and Long Beach St. have expressed varying degrees of interest.

Slaughter told us he doesn't have any early favorites. We asked what he's looking for in a school and Slaughter said, "academics, early minutes and the overall quality of the basketball program." He also told us that he'd prefer to stay in the west.

Slaughter said his GPA is around 2.6 and he scored 740 on the SAT. He plans on taking the test again.
