Never heard of him? Don't feel bad, there's a story behind the player.
Swiech averaged 26 points and 13 rebounds for his high school team before hurting his foot (he says he broke a toe) and hasn't played AAU ball this spring. To say he's flying under the radar would be correct.
While Swiech has been sidelined, Akron's been working him hard. He runs with the Pittsburgh Jots and while he didn't play, he did travel with the team to Akron for the King James event. Now he's a part of the program.
"I have to say honestly that they've been there since my sophomore year," Swiech said. "They kept up with me through the injury. It was the place for me."
Had Swiech played this spring who knows what would have happened? St. Bonaventure and Duquesne offered scholarships. Swiech is targeting the AAU Nationals in late July for a return to the court. Meanwhile, Akron has to be feeling pretty good about having zipped up a strong center prospect that flew neatly under the radar!
