Seahawks Score Strong Wing Shooter

This one comes as a bit of a surprise. Josh Sheets, a standout shooting guard from Goldsboro (N.C.) Charis Prep is heading off to college. The surprise comes in the fact that Sheets is ready to enroll this fall as opposed to 2007.

All year long most observers recruited Josh Sheets as if he was a member of the Class of 2007. Even this summer when he toured Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, N.C. State, Florida, Florida State and Miami, Sheets was considered a 2007 recruit.

Not so fast.

On Monday night, the 6-foot-4 Sheets gave Benny Moss a verbal commitment to attend UNC-Wilmington this fall as a member of the Class of 2006. To score a commitment from a young man with Sheets' ability to drain 3s is quite the pull for late June.

"I got all my requirements fulfilled in the second semester for school and I realized that I was eligible to leave and I went for it," Sheets said. "I had a feeling in my heart and I think I'm ready."

Sheets had a relationship with Moss when the coach was at Charlotte and it carried over to Wilmington. After visiting the school Sheets made up his mind. He saw a few other campuses and decided to become a Seahawk.

"I then had a chance to meet with Coach Moss and he's a good teacher and a good man and I just look forward to being a part of the family. I feel like I'm ready and I didn't feel like there was any reason for me to wait another year."
