Miami Nabs Second Commitment

Freddy Asprilla, a 6-foot-10 native of Colombia, is headed to the Atlantic Coast Conferece. On Tuesday night, Asprilla made his decision and the true center is going to stay in Florida to play his college basketball.

Freddy Asprilla, a 6-foot-10 center out of Colombia, is headed to the ACC according to, the official website of the Miami Tropics, Asprilla's traveling team.

Likely bound for either Calusa Prep or Arlington Country Day next season, Asprilla became Miami's second commitment from the Class of 2007. He joins Top 100 guard Edwin Rios.

Asprilla made his spring debut with the Tropics and one thing is certain: he's a big dude. He tops the scales at over 270 pounds right now and it's that size and potential that likely prompted Miami to nab him early.

"Once the coaches see him at the Peach Jam next month, every coach in the country is going to want him," Tropics skipper Art Alvarez said on the team's website. "Miami is smart to get a commitment from him early. Very smart."
