Zane Johnson: Wait is Over

Zane Johnson is an in-state kid who has always wanted to go to Arizona. The 6-foot-6 Thunderbird High (Ariz.) shooter finally got his wish this past weekend after putting on an impressive performance at a skills camp in Tucson.

When the offer finally came, Zane Johnson didn't hesitate.

The Thunderbird High (Ariz.) 6-foot-6 forward committed to Arizona almost immediately after Wildcats coach Lute Olson put forth a scholarship offer this past weekend at the Advanced Skills Camp.

Johnson may not be considered a big-time athlete, but he'll give Olson and the staff a quality shooter who could be a successful four-year program guy.

Johnson joins Jamelle Horne and Alex Jacobson as 2007 commits. Jerryd Bayless appeared headed to Tucson, but now it looks as though the in-state guard is a heavy lean to attend Texas.

One of the things that attracted Olson is Johnson's versatility.

"They mentioned that," Johnson told Cat Tracks of the possibility to play some minutes at power forward. "I have to get bigger and stronger. I need to get in the weight room a little more. If I get stronger it is definitely a possibility."

Johnson came into the camp with a purpose: To play well enough to receive the elusive offer.

"I felt really good about the way I played," Johnson said. "It was a good experience. It went really well."
