Mayo, a 6-foot-4 guard at North College Hill (Ohio), took an unofficial visit to Los Angeles last week and according to sources close to both Mayo and the Trojans, informed the USC staff that he was going to make an announcement sometime this week at ABCD Camp.
According to sources, Mayo made the decision based on numerous factors:
1) USC's Tim Floyd is a former NBA head coach.
2) He wants to play in a major city.
3) He wants to build a program and not just be another player.
Despite the verbal commitment from Mayo, it's not out of the question that he could opt to be a trend-setter after he finishes high school next year. There has been speculation that he could sign with a shoe company, sit out the season and just work with a personal trainer. There have also been rumors he could play overseas or even in the NBDL.
Mayo's high school and summer teammate, high-flying forward Bill Walker, could follow Mayo to USC.
