SoCal Camps, Part One

The Fullcourt Press All-West Camp and West Coast All-Star Camp have a number of prospects in attendance. We spent time at each camp yesterday and we saw a lot of prospects that we had never seen before...

The West Coast All-Star Camp second session and the Fullcourt Press All-West Camp are both underway in Southern California this week. We spent time at both camps yesterday and the following players caught our attention.

Nathan Lozeau, 6-9 SR C Marysville (Wash.) Marysville Pilchuck. Lozeau has a big body and he moves fairly well. Not especially explosive, but he has a pretty good feel and it looks like he's been coached.

Jeff Withey, 6-10 JR C San Diego (Calif.) Horizon. Pretty good frame, moves well. Shows pretty well in an open-court situation; had a lot of dunks in game we watched. Skill level with back to basket still an open question.

Ryan Kelly, 6-2 JR PG/SG, Chino Hills (Calif.) Ayala. Good-looking kid with a nice frame and good stroke. Very interesting if he ends up a point guard.

Jordan Higginbotham, 6-3 JR PG/SG Antelope Valley (Calif.) Antelope Valley Christian. Very long and rangy young guard. Quick actions and looked like he had a clue. One to watch.

Kelly Kaigler, 6-1 JR PG/SG San Jose (Calif.) Oakgrove. Strong body, pretty quick. Not sure if he plays the one or two, but showed good passing ability.

Dalton Groskreutz, 6-4 JR SG St. George (Utah) Snow Canyon. Very skilled wing with a nice stroke and excellent feel. Very good decisions and has some bounce.

Rome Draper, 6-5 SO SG Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Etiwanda. Very good-looking young wing. Excellent body, with long arms, and a smooth athlete. Very nice shot, plays under control. A likely high major prospect.

Tim Harris, 6-2 SO SG San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian. Explosive athlete with a high skill level. Can get his own shot, more scorer than shooter. A potential high major prospect.

Michael Snaer, 6-3 SO PG/SG Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde. Long and slender prospect who might play either guard spot. Very good athlete with a fairly good shot to the stripe. Decisions can be a little shaky, but there is a significant upside here. A potential high major prospect.

Chase Tapley, 6-1 SO SG Sacramento (Calif.) High. Pretty good frame and length. Slightly thick, maybe some baby fat, but a good stroke.

Will Egolf, 6-7 JR PF Juneau (Alaska) Juneau Douglas. Long and lanky, somewhat narrow, forward. Has some bounce, moves pretty well. Didn't get much of a chance to show skill level.
