Spartans Add Big Man

The Michigan State Spartans procured their second commitment from a member of the Class of 2003. Drew Naymick leaves for Las Vegas on Sunday but on Saturday he decided to become a Spartan.

Izzo Lands Naymick

At the Nike All-American Camp two weeks ago, Tom Izzo and assistant coach Brian Gregory were scurrying around town, making sure they didn't miss one single play center Drew Naymick was involved in. On Saturday, that hard work paid off.

The Grand Rapids Storm big man picked the Spartans over Michigan, Stanford and Ohio State on Saturday.

"I just felt it was the best situation for me," Naymick said. "I had four great opportunities with four great programs. Michigan would have been special but in my heart it was Michigan State."

Add Naymick to a recruiting class that already features Brandon Cotton and you've got a pretty good start to the year.

Since ending his baseball season, Naymick has been quite the big man presence on the summer scene. Without baseball on the brain, he's looked much more active and athletic. The big red head should continue to develop into a fine college basketball player in East Lansing.
