Baker Headed to Sweet 16 Team

Evan Baker put up 51 in a game this past season and former NBA standout Buck Williams raves about his Maryland Madness standout. Baker will head to the prep ranks at MCI (Maine) this year before heading to a program coming off a Sweet 16 appearance.

After doing a prep year, Evan Baker will head to the midwest.

The Archbishop Carroll (D.C.) 6-foot-2 ½, 175-pound combo guard, who put up 51 in a game this past season, committed to Wichita State on Thursday.

Baker, who averaged 19 points as a senior, will spend this season at MCI (Maine) before enrolling at Wichita State.

``They really stuck with me and I felt comfortable with them," Baker said. "I went there for a camp in June and really liked it. It's real nice."

``I wanted to go somewhere that I can play right away and playing for Coach (Mark) Turgeon is a big plus."

Baker plays for former NBA rebounding machine Buck Williams with the Maryland Madness.

``He's a combo guard who can play the one or the two," Williams said. "He's very competitive, is a very good kid and has an extremely high basketball IQ."

``He's got a nice 16-foor jump shot, but his greatest strength is his ability to get the ball to the goal," added Williams. "He's great at attacking the rim."

``I think it's a great fit for both Evan and Wichita State," he continued. "They have a great program and a great staff and it's a system he can play and contribute right away. It's a great situation for both sides."
