Top 100 Viney Ends His Deal

Drew Viney had it down to Arizona State and California so you knew he was going to play ball in the Pac-10. On Friday, the Top 100 prospect from the Class of 2007 made his pick and ended his recruitment.

It's been a great summer for Drew Viney, a 6-foot-7 wing out of Villa Park (Calif.) High. His Pump ‘n Run team captured the Super 64 in Las Vegas and now he's a committed member of a Pac-10 institution.

California edged out Arizona State for Viney's pledge on Friday. Viney is ranked No. 83 in America by His 3-point stroke was on display in Vegas.

"The way I see it I think they're asking me to be the main guy," Viney said, "Not when I first get there but sophomore year and after that they'll ask me to take over team – leading the team, being a scorer and being a main offensive threat and contributing to winning games."

The 6-foot-7 winger who could easily see time at the small forward and shooting guard slots, said his relationship with the Cal basketball staff proved to be a difference maker.

"It was the relationships that I have with the coaches and the players on the team. They're great guys, classy people and I thought I'd fit in there."
