Davis Picks Big East Program

Larry Davis, a shooting guard out of Texas, is headed to the Big East. Davis' relationship with Cincinnati and how he ended up there underscores the importance of being seen in summer basketball.

The Cincinnati coaching staff was dispatched to steamy Suwannee, Ga., for the adidas Super Camp. One of its missions: be seen by junior stud Yancy Gates. Easy enough right? Go watch the big fella play, continue with his recruitment and lay the groundwork for a commitment.

Well, Cincy's plans changed once they arrived at the Sports Complex. Not only did they obviously like Gates but they wound up falling for a shooting guard who played on his team. On Tuesday, Larry Davis of Alief (Tex.) Hastings committed to the Bearcats over Texas A&M.

"After the camp they came on," Davis said. "I guess it was how I played at the (adidas camp). They were coming to recruit a player that was on my team and they saw me and started recruiting me."

A 6-foot-3 senior to be, Davis averaged 15.5 points a game last season. He did in fact perform particularly well at adidas Camp and now he's a Big East player.

"The strongest part of my game is scoring and playing defense. I get out and play the passing lanes and I get the ball in the hoop."

Davis will visit Cincinnati for the first time the weekend of August 28th when he embarks on his official campus visit.
