It's The Big East For Mbakwe

Guys are flying off the "Best Availables" board since the close of the summer. On Wednesday night, Trevor Mbakwe out of Minnesota ended his recruitment and punched his ticket to the Big East.

Tom Crean loves those guys who play with a chip on their shoulder and Trevor Mbakwe is his kind of guy. The 6-foot-7 ½ power forward out of Henry Sibley in Minneapolis ended his process and gave Crean a thumbs up Wednesday night.

"We were just talking to the coaches and we discussed the pros and cons and in the end it felt like the right situation for me," Mbakwe said. "I've been there and I'm familiar with the campus and all that stuff."

As a junior, Mbakwe averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds. He ran last summer with the World Wide Renegades. A number of high major schools like Oklahoma, Cincinnati and a host of others showed interest and recruited him till the end but it was Marquette that stood out the most.

"I think it's the best conference out there. I have a good chance of playing right away and Coach Crean develops his players and I thought it was the best fit for me.

"I think I'll just bring it rebounding and play defense and become more versatile so I can spread the court out and make it easier for everybody."
