ACC School Sets Visit With Mitchell

Alvin Mitchell had the kind of summer needed to lock himself into high-major status. The Team Breakdown standout is fielding interest from a number of programs and already has one visit set.

By the time he hit Las Vegas, word had spread: Alvin Mitchell was flashing a much improved game from a year ago. The 6-foot-5 small forward out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons, was on the rise.

As a result, his collegiate list has expanded. He's got offers from Virginia Tech, Rutgers, St. John's and Pittsburgh.

"I'll take my first visit to Virginia Tech on the 24th of September," Mitchell said. "That's my first one and my second one should be Rutgers. We're trying to get a date with my mom so she can get off right now."

Mitchell indicated an interest in nearby Miami and said he'd like to take an unofficial visit to Coral Gables. However, Scout.com has learned that he's not on Miami's recruiting list.

Whatever the school he ultimately select, Mitchell has a few criteria to help him along the way.

"I evaluate the schools based on the town. I don't want to really play in an up-tempo town. I want to play in a mellow town so I can focus on basketball. I'm looking at the location and the roster where I can make an impact at right away."
