Coaches Finding Shaw

Maurice Shaw, the 6-9 center, has always been somewhat of a mystery as a prospect. But he's played well in various tournaments and camps this summer, and college coaches are definitely interested...

Maurice Shaw, 6-9 SR C, has been a high school vagabond in recent years. Because of different family commitments, he's changed high schools five times. Now he says he's in Gilbert, Arizona, but the high school he'll attend for his senior year is still undetermined.

He could very well commit to a college before he commits to a high school.

Having a relatively good showing this summer, Shaw said that he's hearing from the likes of Arizona State, Texas, Syracuse, Indiana, Illinois, Utah and Air Force. He said that Arizona State has offered, and that Utah, Illinois and Syracuse have indicated they could offer soon also. "But at this point I don't know if I have a favorite," Shaw said. "I might want to get away. I don't know."

But Shaw said that he'd like to get the decision over with fairly quickly. "Not too long after the summer is the plan. I'd like to take my official trips as soon as possible. It'd be good to get the decision over with so I can concentrate on basketball and school."

Shaw said that he currently has a core GPA of 2.5, and will take the SAT in September.
