Michigan Lands Power Forward
Tommy Amaker's Michigan Wolverines received a commitment from a power forward on Wednesday.
Brent Petway, a 6-8 forward with the Georgia Stars, committed to the Wolverines following a third-place finish at the AAU Nationals.
"He couldn't stand it any longer," Stars coach Norm Parker said. "He was ready to get it over with. His mother asked him to be patient. He still felt strongly like he did after his unofficial visit."
Petway played extremely well in helping the Stars to the high finish at the AAU's. When Patrick Ewing went down with a thigh contusion, the majority of the big man scoring fell on Petway's shoulder. At Michigan, his points in the paint will also be needed.
"The thing about Brent is that he's a coachable young man," Parker said. "He's got great character, good work habits and is skilled athletically. He's got a nice mid-range shot but he's not the kind of player who can play with his back to the basket. But, if you get him the ball he figures out the way to score. He will make a great power forward in that league."
