Neysmith Finds Home In The Big 12

Tony Neysmith, a Top 25 point guard, is off the board. The standout from Norcross High in Georgia is taking his game to the Big 12.

The Oklahoma Sooners pursuit of a point guard led them to the state of Georgia, in particular Norcross High where Coach Jeff Capel fell for Tony Neysmith.

The 6-foot-3 Neysmith selected the Sooners after strongly considering St. John's and Charlotte. OU's pursuit picked up during July on the summer circuit when Neysmith played for his father on the Georgia Hurricanes.

Neysmith found comfort in the fact that Coach Capel has walked in his shoes. "Coach Capel played my position in college; he was a big guard," Neysmith said. "He's probably the best to help me get to where I need to be."

With his size and defensive capabilities there are all kinds of ways to utilize Neysmith but it was Oklahoma whose vision of him as a point eventually won out. "A lot of other schools were recruiting me at the one and two and that was fine. They came at me as a one and if I made it to the next level, that's position I would be playing."

Plus, being the Big 12 didn't hurt either. "It just helped because the competition is really good and its one of the top conferences in the country."
