Tough-Minded Bell Starts Visit Process

Idell Bell is a tough-minded mid-major guard. Last weekend he visited Appalachian State and he's beginning to really focus in on a decision.

Idell Bell, a 6-foot-1 point guard out of Lakeland (Fla.) Kathleen, is one of the toughest mid-major point guard prospects around. He carries a reputation as lock-down defender and a guy who will do what it takes to win.

"I know everyone looks at guys who can score a lot but I try to get my teammates involved," Bell told

Next fall, he'll have a new set of teammates and there isn't a shortage of schools who are interested in his services. Last weekend, he took his first official visit to Appalachian State. "The community is nice," Bell said. "The players were cool and were good teammates. What I like about the basketball was that they do what we do in high school. I like the physicalness and toughness. The coaches work hard and I like their program."

UNC-Greensboro, Tennessee Tech, Wright State and Jacksonville are among his hardest pursuers.

"The next visit I might take is to UNC-Greensboro at the end of September.

"I think my coach is getting some new colleges looking at me but he hasn't told me yet. I've got a combine camp this weekend and then my last AAU tournament is Charlie Weber."
