West Coast Recruiting Update

A senior power forward from Alaska has given a verbal commitment. Meanwhile, a Southern California power forward gets an offer from the SEC and his younger teammate has many of the top programs in the country recruiting him...

We spoke with Derrick Taylor, the head coach at Taft High in Woodland Hills, Calif., the other day and he gave us an update on a couple of his players.

Garrett Green, a 6-8 senior power forward, has the physical tools that get coaches excited. He's got a good frame, with long arms and good feet, and he moves well. Green is a good shooter when given time and space, although he needs to quicken up his release a bit.

"Garrett Green just got an offer from LSU," said Taylor. "Wyoming has also been involved and Arizona State just came in recently – they're very interested."

Meanwhile, Larry Drew continues to pile up the scholarship offers. The 5-11 junior point guard is drawing interest from programs across the country.

"Alabama just offered," said Taylor. "Cal, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Tennessee…a bunch of others have offered also."

We asked Taylor about North Carolina.

"They haven't officially offered, but they made it clear they want Larry," said Taylor. "If he were ready to commit to them, I think Carolina would probably take him."

Bradley picked up a commitment earlier this month when Will Egolf, 6-8 SR PF Juneau (Alaska) Douglas, gave a verbal to head coach Jim Les. We only saw Egolf briefly in the summer, but we thought he was kind of intriguing. He seemed to move pretty well and he had a decent touch facing the basket.
