Schools At All Levels Knock On Door
Largo (FL) High point guard Mike O'Donnell is getting hit from all angles as far as his recruitment goes. He's got low-major offers. He has mid-major offers. He has the attention of some high-major schools and one of them actually has a plan for him already.
"Florida State is coming hard," O'Donnell said. "West Virginia is coming hard, too. Florida is coming on pretty hard. [Florida's] a situation where they want me to go to prep school at Fork Union for a year."
That's right; O'Donnell says the Gators will offer him a scholarship if he does a year of service at FUMA. But, that's not the complete list.
"I was really surprised that Butler and Holy Cross were coming into the mix because the schools were so far away." O'Donnell also lists South Alabama, New Orleans, Stetson and Furman among his suitors.
He wants to officially visit Butler that much is for sure. He'd also like to visit Fork Union too. Florida State and West Virginia haven't offered scholarships just yet. The last Largo basketball player to sign with a big school was Erroyl Bing who inked and is having a nice career at East Carolina.
O'Donnell's first taste of the spotlight came at the Nike Camp and then later at the AAUs. Coming from a small school, the competition was the best he'd ever seen. "Once you get on the floor it's pretty much like getting down to business."
For Mike O'Donnell, business is good these days.
