Tracy Smith, Scout.com's No. 45 prospect, isn't likely to end his process anytime soon, at least not officially. We caught up with the 6-foot-7 ½ power forward last week at a Mount Zion workout.
So far, Smith has taken only an unofficial visit and that was to Charlotte. His plans to take the SAT, which is a prerequisite before making a visit, call for a later part of the year or early winter date. Translation: we don't expect him to make a visit until then.
Smith's coach Antonio Fozard said he could make a commitment before the end of the signing period without visiting but Smith isn't ready to be swayed one way or the next.
"I think (the schools on me) are comfortable with me waiting," Smith said. "I want to keep studying so I can real good on (the test).
I'm not concerned. I hope they wait."
All this recruiting attention is courtesy of a waistline reduction that took place over the spring and summer when the Detroit native trimmed an extra 55 pounds of his frame. "I feel good; I'm light on my feet. I'm just like the old me like a couple of years ago."
The weight loss allowed the higher level programs to come in and recruit him. It showed a commitment to himself and the game and in turn he's going to get to play in a big league for a big program. "I looked lazy up the court. I was tired and didn't have my wind. I lost the weight and got back to who I was."
