Andersen Rides Wave of Success To C-USA

Jon Anderson is headed to Conference USA. On Thursday the big fella from outside New Orleans, pledged his allegiance to a program in need of size.

Jon Andersen (pronounced yawn), a 6-foot-9 big man, committed to Tulane after considering Hawaii and Old Dominion. Anderson averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds as a junior at Metairie (La.) Park Country Day School.

Though the trip to the Big Island was tempting, Dave Dickerson sold his Tulane program a tad better and got it done.

"The academics as well as him being a local guy; he loved to play in the front of the home fans," PCD coach Mike McGuire said. ‘I think Dickerson did a really good job and they really showed that they wanted him as a four. I think he's going to be a nice recruit for those guys."

Andersen hit the circuit last spring when he played alongside's current No. 1 junior, Greg Monroe, with the Panthers team. The thinking here is that his best basketball will come in college.

"Dickerson said this and I agree: there's no ceiling to him," McGuire said. "He's tall and raw and he can put on weight when he gets to college. He's going to keep improving every year. I that conference they need big kids. The light is kind of going off and he really wants to be a good college player."
