2008 Introduction: Brendan Lavender

Brendan Lavender, a 6-4 junior shooting guard from Arizona, hasn't received much attention from recruiting analysts, but that figures to change in the next year. He tells us that several schools in the west have been in contact with him...

Brendan Lavender, 6-4 JR SG Mesa (Ariz.) Mountain View, was one of the outstanding prospects at the Arizona Preps Fall Showcase. Lavender has a solid frame, with good length, and he's an above-average athlete. He's a good shooter to the stripe and he has an excellent feel for the game. At this time, we've got him ranked among the top handful of shooting guards in the west for 2008.

We spoke with Lavender recently and asked about the schools that have been expressing interest in him so far.

"UNLV, Arizona State, Utah, BYU, Boise State and Penn State have been showing the most interest," said Lavender.

We asked which schools have been out to see him at his high school.

"Arizona State, Utah, BYU and UNLV came to my school," said Lavender.

Lavender told us he currently has two offers.

"Utah and BYU offered," said Lavender. "UNLV said they only have a couple scholarships for my class and they wanted to wait a bit longer."

Lavender told us he has one school, though, that would be at the top of his list.

"I really like the U of A," said Lavender. "Arizona would be my top school."

Lavender talked a little about what he's looking for in a school.

"Great academics definitely," said Lavender. "And then I'd like to play in the Pac-10 or maybe in the east. Early playing time isn't really something I've thought about much. If I didn't get a lot of minutes early, that wouldn't be a big deal."

Lavender said he's in no rush to make a decision.

"I want to wait until after next summer," said Lavender.

Lavender told us he has a 3.5 GPA.
