2008's Mackey Ends Process

Bud Mackey couldn't wait. He visited, he liked it and now he's ready to cast his lot with a Big Ten power who by all accounts, has turned in a huge week.

The Indiana Hoosiers are hot. White hot.

On Thursday night, Bud Mackey committed to the Indiana Hoosiers. Mackey is a 6-foot-2 combo guard out of Scott County High. He averaged 15 points a game during the regular season and 20 during the post-season.

Last week he visited IU for Midnight Madness and now he's a Hoosier, picking Kelvin Sampson's program after looking at Xavier, Florida, Louisville, Tennessee, Miami and Mississippi State.

"I just liked Indiana," Mackey said. "I made the decision a couple of days ago. I met with Coach Sampson the next day after Midnight Madness and he was just talking it to me and laid it on me. He told me I was their guy."

Mackey isn't among Scout.com Top 50 for his class. Why? He managed to slide under the summer radar after a controversy with an old AAU team that would have put him front and center at the AAU Nationals last July.

Still, word leaked out that he was a top notch player, he attended IU's elite camp, schools jumped on him and now his deal is over. "It's been crazy with all this recruiting," Mackey said. "It's been killing me. After tonight it's all over."

For those who may not be familiar with Mackey, the self-appointed combo guard breaks down his game like this:

"I play the point guard and I'll also play shooting guard, kind of a combo guard. When I play I tailor my game to either position. When I play the two I look to score and at the point I pass."

Simple enough and now the Hoosiers have first commitment from the Class of 2008.
