Ray Schafer, 6-10 SR C Wasilla (Alaska) High, didn't play this summer due to an injured medial meniscus. Schafer had surgery just recently and he should be able to play in 3-6 weeks.
Despite not being able to play in the July evalualtion period, Schafer is still a hot commodity among college coaches. We asked Schafer which schools he is still considering and he said, "Oregon, Arizona St., San Diego St., Illinois, Gonzaga and Stanford."
Schafer told us that he hasn't yet sent in his application to Stanford, but he plans to do so shortly. He has an in-home visit with San Diego St. set up for September 9th and he's in the process of setting up more in-homes. He told us he'll schedule official visits after he's had the in-homes.
We asked if he still hoped to sign in November and Schafer replied, "I'm planning on November, but we'll see what happens."
Schafer told us that geography won't play a role in his decision. "That doesn't matter," said Schafer. "The coaches, their coaching style, and how they know the game, will be an issue. Also the players and how I get along with them."
