"Pepperdine is getting a skilled player that has a high basketball IQ. Thompson is a great fit for Coach Walberg's style of play given that he is an excellent outside shooter, is active defensively and has a strong passion for the game," Stoneridge's head coach, Babacar Sy, said. "Mychel will have an extra year to get bigger and stronger here at Stoneridge. Clearly his best basketball is still ahead of him," Sy added.
"I am excited about the system that Coach Walberg has brought to Pepperdine and the enthusiasm of he and his staff. This combined with the academics of the school and my ability to stay in Southern California were all factors in my decision," Thompson said.
